For the latest and sixth series of the popular TV cooking programme Aroma Kitchen, which started last week, a wine educational spot has been introduced towards the beginning of each show. The show’s host and resident chef, Manuel Xuereb, and I will choose a specific wine-related topic each week and spend a few minutes explaining the chosen subject in more detail.

For those of you who remember the old TV vignettes Cellar Talk, circa 2001, these short wine insights will be along the same lines and cover everyday wine queries, such as opening a bottle of wine, wine storage tips, wine faults, glassware, varietal wines, vintage and non-vintage wines, blended wines, corked wines, oxidation, tasting, food and wine tips, decanting and breathing.

For the first four sessions, we will be looking at how we evaluate a wine rather than simply drink it.

To do this, I will be explaining what to look out for and what to concentrate on, while seeing, smelling and sipping your wine rather than just gulping it down.

As usual, at the end of each show, I will also be pairing up compatible wines to accompany one of the dishes prepared by chefs Manuel, Neil or Aaron.
