Why did the news of Mgr Charles Scicluna’s appointment as Auxiliary Bishop of Malta break on October 5, following a leak from the Vatican, when the Maltese Church did not yet know about it officially?

Why did the local Church not issue any statement about the appointment before the news appeared on the front page of The Times the day after (it had been on the internet on the day)? It was, after all, a matter which directly concerns it and the Maltese public.

It is obvious that there are still “spies” in the Vatican, besides the news of the Pope’s butler. Although this is very good news, yet, it is still a leak from the Roman Curia. The Church in Malta should draw the Vatican’s attention to this immediately.
