I think that justice will be better served if our judges are elected and not appointed. That way they will have to state and explain where they stand on issues of law and law enforcement and the people will know what to expect from them once they are elected. And if they screw up they will not be re-elected.

Well said! About time such a system is introduced. Those that don't deliver are ousted and forever!

Dear Alfred I agree with you, but alas, as things are with our Blockvote mentality it never happens the way we want it.
Just look and see who is representing us in parliament .
I am sure that not all deserve to be there . Some have screwed up in the past , some are screwing up now yet still they are re-elected.
That is the result of a blockvote system .

Well Dr Orland , the island waits to see your performance on law and justice especially given the insane rulings handed down recently.
Our trust in in your hands, OUR legal system. OUR safety . Please do not disappoint us

Yes she was a PN candidate in 1992, that is 20 years ago. So what? Does this mean she is less qualified? But why do we have to politicise everything and everyone?

Indeed she was! Guess what a coincidence the insistence of GonziPN on giving 12,000 euro increase to the judiciary without obligations!
and the maltese tax payers must accept 1.16euros a week........

Dr Schembri Orland seems to be a well qualified lady in her fields and I am sure that she will be a welcome presence in the Maltese courts. However from recent questionable decisions on sentencing it would appear that the judiciary also urgently requires judges and magistrates who have a sound grounding in criminal law and have their feet firmly on the ground and heads well below cloud level.
