Carmelo Abela, writing in the other paper on Monday morning, made something of a noise about how it was time for the country to be returned to democracy and such-like stirring calls to arms. You'd have thought he was about to take up knitting and accompany the old hags to the guillotine, such was the fervour of his stance.

We're used to Labour ignoring its own past, of course, and frankly, if you haven't got the point about not repeating history because you've not ignored it, then it's too late for you. But really, this whine about democracy and dictatorship is really getting beyond a joke.

A party with Mintoff and Dr KMB in its past, with the attendant excesses wrought on the body social and politic at the time, really shouldn't spew garbage about democracy, firstly because they must maintain a seemly silence about the subject for at least another twenty years and, secondly, because it simply ain't true that we have any sort of problem.

To prove their case, Labour's spinners and Lil'Elves keep telling us that "people within the PN say so too".

Let's examine just who these people are, shall we?

EU Commissioner John Dalli, defeated in his leadership bid, did not accept his lot with the grace of, say, Prof. de Marco. Instead he mopes around sulking in his gilded prison (the latter being his word) every so often being wheeled out by Labour, the ones who used to attack him relentlessly, to have a public baring of his tortured soul. Such an authority on democracy and the functioning of Parliament, he.

Then we have the eternal abbreviation, JPO, elected to the House after managing to convince everyone, including his own party (which owes him an eternal vote of thanks for almost losing them the last elections) that he was oh-so-innocent of everything. Now he sits around sniping, having become Labour's Very Good Friend, all the venom of the electoral and post-electoral period happily forgotten.Another peerless authority, this.

What to say about Mugliett, pray tell? All you need to do is read Labour's outpourings on him not many moons ago, before he was rehabilitated conveniently for them. He is hardly relevant in a discussion on the subject, is he?

And then we have the non plus ultra, the authority on everything and forever, Franco Debono, who quite clearly and unequivocally uses his incidental power to further his own agenda, said agenda being the glorification of Franco and all his works. All you need to do is check out his blog, where for instance he publishes his motion to annoy Austin Gatt in no less than three separate posts (so far) so smugly pleased is he with it, to convince yourself beyond reasonable doubt that here is a man whose opinion on anything is less than fit for purpose.

There you have it: four solitary individuals, out of many, many thousands, who have found themselves - wonder of wonders - occupying the position of Labour's heroes and champions.Amazing isn't it, how you can find something in common between them all?

You're an intelligent reader, work it out for yourself.
