Mugliett resigns from House Audit Committee

Nationalist MP Jesmond Mugliett has resigned from the Audit Committee of the House of Representatives.

He resigned after the committee last Wednesday approved the extension of the government lease to the operators of the MCP car park in Floriana. Mr Mugliett said that while he agreed with the extension for the lease, he disagreed that the government would pay €3.2m for the acquisition of some 100 parking slots.

The Audit Committee verified motions for the transfer of government property.

Mr Mugliett, a former Transport Minister,  told TVAM that he had not been given proper replies as to how this figure was reached, and his own calculations showed that those parking spaces should cost less.

He had resigned, he said, because he did not want to be part of this decision.

Mr Mugliett also said in reply to questions that he does not intend to vote against the Budget.

"Another one has found the guts to represent Maltese taxpayers!"

Oh no, another one!!!!!!!! What were your views during the restoration of Manwel Dimech Bridge when the Onor. Jesmond Mugliett was in charge of the project?

@ carmel cassar

Are you joking when stating "Then the PM tells the service pensioners to be patient,"?

Don't you know that it was a Nationalist Government who began to compensate service pensioners with what they should have been compensated for their service pension received from abroad?

Mr Andrew Camilleri

No, the MPs will still have reserved parking in the City. Thenew parking spaces will probably go to some blue eyed boys who work in the Ministries. This is like the CVA scheme launched by Austin Gatt in Valletta ("I guarantee you parking in Valetta within five minutes") - according to a parliamentary reply some two years ago, 22,000 exemptions from the CVA were issued -for some 5000 parking places! Mur ifhem.

This article tells he whole story.. 3.2 million for 100 slots.
The car park issue is all about this- further hanky panky business! any where there is money, the PN has given to his blue eyed boys.
Beach concessions , and kiosks have not been mentioned yet, but pre election, concessions have been extended for a further 18 years!!!

you are so politically blind that you didnt even notice this is a new issue not related to the old car parks problem.... "Mr Mugliett said that while he agreed with the extension for the lease, he disagreed that the government would pay €3.2m for the acquisition of some 100 parking slots."

john muscat

Oct 8th 2012, 11:11

This is not the ordinary car park if you know how to read. Mr. Mugliett is against paying €3.2 MILLION for 100 car spaces out of OUR money to friends of friends, which any cuc knows it is astronomical, Sur Abela.

Well said!! but it's St. Philip's they are wanting to lease but it appears that they might want to buy that hospital now according to to-day's news as the one that they built is not big enough yet the consultants work part-time.The general public is badly catered for in the ministry of health.

The goverment want to rent these spaces to reserve for themselves when the new Parliament building is opened as it is next door to them!
