Electoral Register published
A revised Electoral Register for General Elections and for Local Councils as well as the European Union Electoral Register have been published in the Government Gazette.
Any person who had the necessary qualifications to be registered as a voter and whose name has not been included in the respective register and every voter whose designation, address or other particulars have not been shown correctly has up to October 26 to appeal to a Revising Officer, the Electoral Commission said.
Anyone who wishes to remove any person from the register or claims that the respective designation, address or other particulars are not correctly shown may also submit an appeal to a Revising Officer by October 26.

This is useful information. However the registry needs updating. It shows registered voters up till April 2012 not to date.

You are very right about this. In my opinion one should be required to produce some proof of residence such as a utility bill or signed affidavit by a neighbor. Identity theft is much easier this way and people can easily abuse from the social service entitlements decalring to be ressiding on their own when in fact they would be residing with their perents or others.

The government gazette costs 3.96 euros or you can view it free online.
Unless it's treated as a special edition, then why should the list of electors be any different?

All one has to do to change one's address is to fill a simple form and sign a declarationat the Electoral Office(whio are acting on behalf of the Police Commissioner) stating that what you have provided in a true and actual fact.THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO REQUIREMENT TO SUPPLY ANY PROOF/CORROBORATION OF THE NEW ADDRESS OR THAT YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO RESIDE THERE AND SUPPLY SUCH AN ADDRESS-which therefore makes it relatively simple to commit address -theft and for an unscrupulous person or persons to use your address illegally and fradulently-as happened to me.The system is massively flawed and readily abused and no one-neither the Police Commissioner nor the Electoral Commissioner- is doing anything to remedy this unprotective to the citizen situation

One good reason why the present 'Districts' system should be abolished and the whole of Malta and Gozo treated as one 'district'. It will also reduce the risk of nepotism, favouritism and patronage that the present system inevitably encourages.
But that would put the status quo at risk, so don't expect it to happen any time soon.
