Children with beaming smiles got to sit inside a real plane, the life-size version of their toys at home, during the open day held at the Safi Aviation Park yesterday.
Aircraft enthusiasts, many of them adults, also took the opportunity to get a close look at the planes they usually see from afar.
During the open day, visitors got a close view of Medavia’s and SR Technic’s hangars, each large enough to accommodate two Airbus A320 aircraft, Boeing 737s or planes of similar size at the same time.
Organised by Malta Enterprise, the event brought people to the €17m Safi Aviation Park to highlight the employment and education opportunities within the growing aviation industry, which nowadays provides employment to more than 1,000 workers.
Trackless trains took visitors around the park to view the new taxiway linking it to the Malta International Airport as well as the areas earmarked for future development, including the site where Dutch company Aviation Cosmetics shall be constructing a new hangar to provide spray-painting services.
During the course of the day, a variety of entertainment activities were organised for the family, including displays by the Armed Forces of Malta, the Civil Protection Department, the Malta Red Cross and the Scout Association of Malta.
