Stones of Faith by Charles Cassar was recently launched at the Gozo Cathedral’s chapter hall in Victoria.
The book, published by Midsea Books, is about the cathedral’s inlaid marble floor which is rich with tombstone slabs of multicoloured marble emblazoned with armorial shields and family and occupational emblems, prancing putti and garlands.
Introducing the book, Mgr Joseph Bezzina pointed out that while St John’s Co-Cathedral has 405 tombstones, the Gozo Cathedral has 69. While those commemorated in St John’s are mostly foreign knights, those buried in the Gozo cathedral are all local notables.
