The Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority’s Technical Regulations Division notifies consumers who have bought a nine-step GI 200 Dogrular ladder to stop using it immediately and return it to the seller.
The ladder's material is thinner than that allowed by standard regulations and could fail during use
The step ladder does not conform to the applicable EU directives, posing a serious risk to consumers – the material it is made of is thinner than that allowed by standard regulations. The ladder could fail during use, posing a risk of injury, so it is being withdrawn from the market and recalled from consumers.
This is the division’s 23rd notification this year through European rapid alert system Rapex, whereby dangerous non-food products on the European market are reported.
Whoever is responsible for placing the dangerous product on the market must take the necessary measures to prevent further risks to consumers. This usually involves removing the product from the market.
Moreover, Rapex regulations also require each EU member state to check notifications carried out by other member states to ensure that, if products notified on the system are actually present in their market, appropriate actions are taken to ensure health and safety.
Consumers who wish to report any unsafe product may do so directly on the authority’s website at http://mccaa.org.mt/loadfile/edec0589-219c-40d7-bb1c-f1d697799d8a .
