DHL employees take part in volunteer day worldwide
Employees at DHL Express Malta joined thousands of employees worldwide at Deutsche Post DHL for Global Volunteer Day, an annual event held betweenSeptember 6 and 16.
The local initiative was two-pronged: a group of female employees took 17 children, aged four to 12, from Angela House, Guardamangia, along with three Ursuline Sisters and a facilitator, on a day out.
The day started with a tour of the Bird Park in Salina, followed by visits to McDonald’s in Buġibba and Funland, where they experienced 5D cinema.
While the children were out, the recreation hall at Angela House was painted and maintenance work was carried out.
“The children had a great time,” said DHL Express Malta manager Charles Schiavone. “Our thanks go to V. Spiteri & Sons, who offered free transport for this outing.
Global Volunteer Day was first organised by DHL in 2011, when employees in 130 countries and territories worked on approximately 600 projects. DHL has a workforce of 470,000 people in more than 220 countries and territories.
“The volunteer work our employees do throughout the year is impressive. Through Global Volunteer Day, we can also produce a strong feeling of oneness and create additional motivation,” Christof Ehrhart, head of Corporate Communications and Responsibility at Deutsche Post DHL, said.
The projects cover a wide range of activities, including the remodelling of schools in South Africa, donation drives for the homeless in Russia, reading hours for children with impaired vision in India and the clean-up of nature reserves in Thailand.
