Two taxi drivers were this morning remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to conspiring and importing cocaine, and money laundering over the last two years.

The case centres on a drug trafficking ring involving Wilder Lopez Garcia, 35, a Colombian man living in Malta, currently in custody pending criminal proceedings.

Mario Mifsud, 42, from Luqa and Etienne Ciantar, 29, from San Ġwann, were, according to police, involved in the importation and sale of drugs.

Police Inspector Malcolm Bondin said Mr Garcia was named by two drug mules - Olga Lucia Rativa Restrepo from Colombia and Sandra Castano, from Spain, both 38, as the person who employed them to get cocaine from Spain hidden in their private parts.

He promised them €1,000 each for the drugs, the women told police.

The case continues.
