A police inspector revealed in court today how two persons who were arrested for bringing drugs to Malta had cooperated with the police in order to arrest the mastermind.
Olga Lucia Rativa Restrepo from Colombia and Sandra Castano, from Spain, both 38, were arrested last month after drugs were found hidden in their private parts.
Police Inspector Malcolm Bondin said the two had helped the police to arrest the man who had enticed them to carry out the deal.
Olga Lucia Rativa Restrepo had told the police that she met a man, Wilder Lopez Garcia, 35, whom she knew as Ċaċo, in St Julian’s.
He allegedly offered her a good sum of money to import drugs to Malta from Spain but she refused at first. Eight months later he contacted her again and she accepted because she needed the money.
She roped in her friend, Sandra Castano and he arranged for the women to meet another woman in a disco in Madrid. He promised them €1,000 each. Once there this woman told them to hide the drugs in their private parts. They were arrested soon after they arrived in Malta.
While in custody, Ms Restrepo decided to spill the beans and told the police about everything including where the accused lived in St Julian’s, the inspector said.
Mr Garcia has been separately charged with drug trafficking.
The case continues.
