Petrol price down, diesel up
The price of unleaded petrol has gone down 1c, while that of diesel has gone up 1c, Enemalta said.
The prices, it said, reflect the latest shipments of imported fuel.

"The prices, it said, reflect the latest shipments of imported fuel."
Do we really base our prices on what's been shipped in last and not what we currently have in storage?

what about the fact that was pointed out somewhere in thsi paper some time ago, that Enemalta buys at prices which are very high? There was a comparison of prices and it was alledged that enemalta bought fuel at prices which were relatively higher than those which other buyers bought at? What about the fact that this is the effect of the wise step by an annointed one who removed fuel hedging prices just before prices went up so much?

Not sure why minor changes in fuel prices make headlines in Malta. In Australia, and elsewhere in Europe where I've worked, fuel prices are displayed on large signs next to the service stations, and fluctuate on a daily basis. You'll know exactly how much you're going to pay per litre before you refuel. Certainly not a matter of national headlines.

Because of the typical insular character of half of the Maltese; they are completely oblivious to what goes on
in the world.. Now every adult who can drive owns a car and therefore everyone is affected by fuel prices . At the same time few people realise that because of the very short distances in Malta the fluctuations in prices translate into just a few cents a month up or down. Furthermore most people love to moan and groan, it seems to be ingrained in the character of most of the locals. Last, but not least, there is the political agenda; they want to make it look as though the prices are in any way influenced by the government of the day.

Fuel prices flactuations are all gimics by the goverments. They buy fuel for much less they actually buy it. It is called duty!
PL will do the same...so those red people do not think that Dr. Muscat will lower fuel. Fuel is just an effective way to TAX people as much as you want. I am pretty sure that under PL fuel prices will increase even more, since with all the promises of lowering electricity, etc etc money has to come from somewhere.

Petrol price down, Diesel up. Next week Diesel Down, petrol up. The usual vicious circle that now we have been to Mintoff when every budget he used to list those everyday price commodities that used to get down. For the PN every budget is just a decoy to make a show of their hypocrisy. While all prices increases all through the year like the fuel, water and electricity bills, gass, and all everyday commodities prices, at the budget we hear parole, parole, and more parole as if prices remained stable, and the PN are doing magics while in fact doing somersault after somersault with the aim to bring something to their favour.

The prices of the petrol have nothing to do with the government, the prices are change from abroad and depends on the value of the euro. You are stressing yourself for nothing, just keep calm, and let GonziPN govern for a few more days.thank very much.
Joseph Arpa
Sep 30th 2012, 18:23
Part of what you say is true, fuel prices do change from abroad. But It is GonziPN who decides by how much prices increase or decrease locally. Dosen't it seem funny to you that most of the time an increase is of 0.05c or 0.06c however a decrease in price like the one of today is more or less always around 0.01c.
If you chosse to be fooled (for a few more days) we dont.....thank you very much!

For all of those who blame this on the government, I really would like to see what all your comments will be like when PL will be in the government after the next election and every last day of the month these changes in fuel prices will still take place as they are now. I think it's about time we all grow up and stop blaming governments just because our political believes are different.
Steve Pace
Sep 30th 2012, 18:25
I think it's about time we all grow up and stop blaming governments just because our political believes are different
Some of us dont actually put any blame on the government because of our different beliefs. Your assumption is quite incorrect in that respect. Secondly ... it is quite amazing how many don't realize that prices going up are done on the spot while stocks in petrol stations don't end on the day ... This effectivley means that the fuel we are buying the following days of a price increase is really old stock with old prices and not the new price. This means more profit for the stations. One might argue that the same applies when prices go down. My answer to that would be to comapre the number of times fuel goes up to the number of times and amounts prices do actually go down...
Added to all this, is the amount of tax per litre the government imposes .. I find these two arguments to realistically justify our frustration and anger at the government fuel price policy ..

Still by far some of the cheapest fuel in Europe and that's when taking account incomes and the tiny distances travelled in Malta compared to all other EU countries.
How many on here drive their cars less than 3km rather than walk? How many drive round and round trying to fine a parking space rather than getting the bus? There's still plenty of money in Maltese pockets to waste on fuel they don't need to use in the first place.
Robert Lewis
Sep 30th 2012, 18:58
@ C.Cassar. Excuse me but your arguement doesn't make sense. I bet you that with the fuel one uses to go fom Valletta to C'Kewwa in Malta, you will do at least a 70 mile journey on the motorway abroad, and obviously as well the parking space problem you mentioned, if car parks are privatised it will be worst. And what about your comment concerning the use of a bus. Do you want to tell me to use a bus for a short journey, say for 2, husband and wife, paying 3 euro plus the unlimited waiting on bus stops. And I can state facts. Bus 205 leaving Rabat full ( a 10 min drive to Mosta ), had to wait for the next one, one hour later. U ghax xi hadd laqghat il qampina bi zball ix xuffier tghidx kemm dagh u tkellem hazin (fuq rotta differenti ) u qal li jekk ikun jaf min itih daqqa go halqu u jifqahhulu. Sep 30th 2012, 19:42
C.Cassar; Absolutely right, we have to cut the number of cars on the roads in Malta, the only way to deal with the problem is to double the tax on fuel and invest the proceeds in an efficient and reliable public transport system. There is going to come a time in Malta when the whole place will become gridlocked and won't be worth owning a car anyway.
