Here we go again
An unusual vigorous road-marking exercise was seen in several strategic points in Malta in the last few days. Worn and faded lines suddenly got a long-overdue fresh coat of white and yellow paint, including road-markings close to Auberge de Castille in Valletta.
A number of main junctions, including the exit from the Santa Venera tunnels, also received a fresh layer of asphalt.
Such exercises often coincide with high-profile events and international visits, like the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting and the Pope’s visit.
Some could not help wondering whether the enthusiastic road embellishment project had any connection with last night’s Notte Bianca event in Valletta or, more probably, the Euro Mediterranean 5+5 meeting in Malta the coming weekend. Or just coincidence perhaps?

most probably the are still using the wrong kind of road paint as usual those marking will be
all gone with the first heavy rain what a wast of time and money just to appease one of them in return of a favour now that election is near.

It is quite probably the busiest evening of the year for Valletta and we have been advised to use public transport, yet they choose that afternoon for painting new road markings on the bus lane. "Why are they doing it now?" asked the amazed tourists sitting next to me on the bus bound for Notte Bianca. I am tempted to say "because this is Malta" but I have to wonder (and not for the first time) what on Earth are Transport Malta doing and is there an anti-Arriva agenda or just TM stupidity?

Not in St. Julians. The zebra crossings near the Love Monument have now faded completely. Local council please note.

The "positive" consequences of Election time! Here we go again with the same antics, when will this country ever grow up, once and for all? Or do we have to put up with this nonsense for the years to come, too?

Why waste money on white paint? There is no need to mark places where parking is permitted, only where it is not. I wonder how much fuel is wasted by drivers jockeying back and forth trying to ensure that their cars are completely within the marked bays.

General Elections must be very close as that paint lasts a mere 3 months to the maximum.
Both Asphalt and road markings used in Malta are of ridiculously low standard. In advanced countries a special type of gravel is mixed with tarmac to provide excellent grip even in wet conditions and a special type of paste not PAINT is used for road markings. This Paste used last a lifetime!!
ADT should make make a list of standards and impose them when issuing tenders. This situation where in Malta......."kollox jaghddi" has to end.

I agree completely with Mr. Sammut. How is it possible that our street markings only last weeks, or months at best, when countries with much more extreme temperatures manage to have street markings which last much longer?
Is it, perhaps, because we have more traffic?
I don't think so. It must be because we use inferior, watered down or diluted materials.

Whatever the reason remember the date and see how long the markings will last!

Good idea. The reason must be that inferior, watered down or diluted materials are being used, otherwise the markings would not fade after a week or so. Who is accountable please ?
