In line with its strategy to have an equipped National Disaster Response team, a group of Malta Red Cross volunteers have successfully completed their training in Water Rescue in conjunction with the Bulgarian Red Cross.
Abseiling and rope access training took place in Italy. The University of Malta has also trained five volunteers in command and control.
Robert Brincau, director of operations, Malta Red Cross, said: “Education has always been one of our pillars. These encouraging results ensure many more training opportunities lie ahead for both current and prospective volunteers.”
Over the past years, the movement has seen volunteers coming from all walks of life: from stay-at-home mothers to workers, from students to retired senior citizens, all of whom have accumulated knowledge and experience that has helped the organisation increase its significance within Maltese society.
Proof of this is the tremendous work which was carried out behind the scenes during last year’s Libya crisis.
