Steve Camilleri, the Neptunes’ chief goal-getter who has topped the local scoring charts for several years, is understood to have extended his contract with Rari Nantes Bogliasco, the top Italian club from Genoa.

If so, this will be the fifth consecutive year the Maltese talis-man will be turning out for the Italian side after joining them in 2009.

The 25-year-old Camilleri, who has also renewed his contract with Maltese champions Neptunes, has matured into an all-round performer, with his scoring ability remaining his main asset.

Camilleri also won the ASA’s waterpolo player of the year last year after having first won this honour in 2007 as a budding 20-year-old. Last year he was runner-up in the Sportsman of the Year national contest.

This summer, Camilleri helped Neptunes win the league and cup, 21 times each, scoring 78 goals in the process as well as being the only player who scored in every top-division league and cup match.
