Whatever the cause or ''provocation'', one cannot EVER justify domestic violence

Seems like CSI Malta is in the making based on true stories. This country is becoming too unsafe.

@ Maroushka Zammit. You are so right but I think that 1) people are not aware of the help that is on offer and that 2) as a nation we are a bit too proud to accept an outsider to know our business. Eventually people here can't take it any more, the bubble bursts and in a fit of rage they take the law into their own hands regardless of the consequence. What a shame!

If you place 20 mice in a cage measuring one meter square they will live reasonably happily together. However if you increase their numbers to a hundred there will be fighting, aggression and worse. This is simply the result of having too many mice under one roof and the fight for territory, food, rest and sexual advances accelerates. Malta is a small country; we are overcrowded; we have difficulty keeping up with the rising costs and as a result violence breaks out at the slightest provocation.

Upsetting amount of family hate and crimes going on in Malta..children and grandchildren towards parents, grandparents, spouses... if people could just open up and reach out instead of everything being enshrouded in silent, shame...there is help for those who need it. There are therapists working on the island for all those who have anger issues, drinking issues, are suffering mental health issues...but God forbid, that is terrifying shame, they just repress, suppress..till they explode and entire families are affected because of violent crimes. What a shame indeed! GET HELP IF YOU NEED IT! IF YOU ARE MANIFESTING TANTRUMS, LASHING OUT, UNCONTROLLABLE TEMPER, ANGER TOWARDS PEOPLE, HATRED...EVEN ROAD RAGE FOR GOD SAKE GO AND GET HELP BEFORE YOUR LIFE TURNS UPSIDE DOWN IN A MOMENT THAT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED! There is no shame in getting help...but shame will be poured on you after you have done what you cannot undo!

Before seeking human beings help one has to seek 'God's' faith which is the turning point of everything. I am not saying that I am a Saint but I keep 'God' and the 'Holy Mary' in my day life apart from our Saint 'San. George Preca' who was one of us. 'God' ( Jesus Christ ) has told us that if you pray you will be given. One has not only pray when he is inneed but all the time. Sometimes one sees people shy making the sign of the cross which are parents used to do before meals and first in the morning. Why this !!! because of progress ???

What is going on? So much violence in the homes and between relatives. Is tension building up in Malta? The elections? the heat?the cost of living? the pressure of a Western way of life?the loss of a more spiritual outlook on life?
Am i the only one who feels this is getting out of hand?

Well said Maryann. Human beings on large are losing or lost ' GODS' faith. Prayers have gone by the wind and thus problems can.t be solved by ourselves. Most are pretending that they can go without God.

So it's just more effective media, is it? The fact that the number of suicide cases appears to have has risen exponentially, that there are more murders in a year than there used to be in a decade a mere half-century ago, taht there are 600 prisoners at the Civil Prisons whereas it was under 200 20 years ago is down to better information. I see....

You have no right at all to tell Maryann to shut up....Who do you think you are?? She is right. I am so worried about where this once peaceful island is heading to. Shame on whoever uses violence to prove a point...and on your own son, allegedly.

God has nothing to do with people being stoned or put to the stake.
That was an evil church that did all that things in the name of God, just for the power to rule and control the poor believers.
I believe in God of course, but don’t believe in the church.
People of different culture name God with different names. But God is God and not believing in God is like having a TV set with no electrical supply, it is use less.

It could be due to an increase in population size. You want to go by percentage for suicides/crimes etc really to get an accurate figure.
You can see how much the population has increased since 1960 here:

l suggest yoy read "Delitti f'Malta 200 sena ta' omicijdi 1800-2000" by Edward Attard. Human nature does
not change and it's the same anywhere in the world. By the way the first murderer killed his brother vide
the book of Genesis.

@ Dean Cachia:
Thanks for the link.
Obviously population size is one factor. The fact remains that the rise in the rates of anti-social behaviour by far outsrips the increase in population numbers. Clearly there are other factors at play, and in my opinion, these have to do with socio-cultural changes, breakdown in family stability, changes in attitudes towards authority and the loss of religious vaues.
