MOSTA-4, QORMI-2

Mosta extended their winning run to three games with a deserved 4-2 win over Qormi in another high-scoring match at the National Stadium.

For the second game running, Danail Mitev, Mosta's Bulgarian winger, stole the attention with another five-star performance as the Blues attacking prowess proved too much for Qormi.

In the opening stages, Danail Mitev's powerful drive from the distance was high and, at the other end, Luke Dimech blocked dangerous run by Abubakar Bello-Osagie.

Qormi broke the deadlock midway into the first half. Gaetan Spiteri's twisting run in the box had the Mosta defence in a tangle as the on-loan forward ran past Bryan Agius and Dimech before hitting a scrambled shot that took a deflection before rolling into the net.

Four minutes later, Mosta's Mitev, always dangerous in set-pieces, produced a curling cross-cum-shot from a right-wing free-kick which sailed wide.

Bello-Osagie then headed wide from Gauci's cross but, eight minutes from half-time, Mosta levelled thanks to Mitev who headed home from Bryan Agius's cross.

Mosta were now calling the shots.

Matthew Farrugia, the Qormi goalkeeper, fumbled another free-kick by Mitev and Carlos Campagnoli headed over from the Bulgarian's set-piece cross.

Towards the end of the first half, Obinna Obiefule surged forward on the left wing before directing the ball into the goalmouth but Zongo's first-time effort was off target.

Two minutes into the second half, Mosta went 2-1 up when Bello-Osagie committed an own goal after diverting Mitev's corner into his own net.

Mosta's second goal rattled Qormi who fell two goals behind seven minutes into the second half.

Obiefule's low cross from the right unsettled Farrugia as the Qormi goalkeeper failed to grab the ball and Firas Aboulezz took the rebound to slot home.

Qormi revived their hopes on the hour mark when Kris Thackray profited from some hesitant defending by Mosta to hit past Justin Haber from close range.

The Yellow-Blacks briefly threatened to force an equaliser but with 10 minutes remaining, Mosta applied the killer blow when Ousseni Zongo tapped the ball home at the far post after receiving from Obiefule.

Mosta had other chances to increase their leads, notably through man-of-the-match Mitev who drove high after going past Qormi defender Jonathan Bondin.

Qormi had a late opportunity to reduce the deficit but substitute Leighton Grech fired wide.
