Actavis Ltd will be investing €13 million for the construction of a new warehouse adjacent to its plant.

This investment is being made with the support of Malta Enterprise and the Ministry of the Finance, Economy and Investment. Actavis Ltd managing director Patrick Cachia recently hosted Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi to a visit to the Żejtun plant.

Mr Cachia said the new warehouse would provide the required platform and infrastructure to the manufacturing site for future growth. This was strategically important for Actavis Group since it is one of the key launch sites for new products.

The new warehouse will have a built-up area of around 5,000 square metres and a maximum capacity of 7,500 pallet locations.

Together with the management team, Mr Cachia accompanied Dr Gonzi on a tour of the premises, including company offices and laboratories.

Actavis is a global leader in the production of generic pharmaceuticals. This year, the company increased its packaging capacity by employing another 20 people to have all of its 10 packaging lines to work on a four-shift basis. The company also boasts a research and development unit which employs 53 skilled employees. The Malta plant employs 603 people.

Actavis is currently undergoing an integration process with the Watson Group.
