Former Aquatic Sports Association (ASA) vice-president Michael Gialanze passed away while on holiday outside the country, yesterday.

Until some years ago, he was chairman of the ASA Swimming Board.

A medical doctor by profession, Gialanze, through his functionaries on the association’s board, organised various swim meets in Malta which also comprised swimmers from different European countries.

Dr Gialanze, who was also a former Neptunes WPSC vice-president, was well-known not only as an administrator but also as a track athlete of quality.

In fact, as a budding teenager he represented Malta in the 1958 European Championships in Stockholm, having competed in the 400 metres.

He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Gillian, his son and daughter, Christian and Nicola, and his grandchildren, besides numerous friends and sports lovers.
