An Eritrean man who ploughed into a group of people waiting to buy vegetables from a street vendor in Ħal Far on Monday evening yesterday admitted injuring five people, including three seriously.

Yacob Zeweldi, 28, who lives at the open centre in the same area, had not been drinking and a breathalyser test proved negative, Police Inspector Kevin Pulis told Magistrate Edwina Grima.

Mr Zeweldi admitted seriously injuring Annuziato Xuereb, Raymond Borg and Abdulahi Abdel Adif and causing slight injuries to Musab Muhammed Abdigarit and Anthony Zahra.

Magistrate Grima put off the case to October 3 for judgment, giving enough time for the magisterial inquiry to be concluded and for her to have a clear picture of what had happened on the night.
