The government and the nurses union have reached an agreement which will govern the work of nurses in the casualty department of Mater Dei Hospital.

Health Minister Joseph Cassar said this afternoon that the agreement provides for the deployment of additional specialised nurses in ambulance teams and the provision of a list stipulating which medicines and injections may be administered by nurses without reference to doctors in pre-hospital care, such as on ambulances.

It was also agreed that all hospital crews including the medical personnel will be covered by insurance.
