The 14-year-old girl who was admitted to hospital in mysterious circumstances yesterday evening died of cardio-respiratory failure, pending toxicological results, the autopsy has established.
The police are working on the theory that the girl, Shanice Muscat, had been on the roof of her house sniffing lighter fuel, which is a common inhalant among teenagers.
The police have questioned another young woman who was with her at the time. She was admitted to hospital at around 6.30 p.m.
This morning, the police also said that a 30-year-old man from Paola also died of cardio-respiratory failure pending toxicological results after he was admitted to hospital yesterday evening.
The police said the man was taken to hospital after he needed medical assistance while he was at home.
An inquiry is also being held.
