AFM evacuates sick seaman

A sick seaman from the German Frigate ‘Bayern’ was brought ashore by an AFM patrol boat this morning.

The AFM said that medical evacuation was requested at midnight by the Bayern, scheduled to visit Malta tomorrow.  Due to very strong winds at the time, helicopter evacuation was ruled out and the patrol boat was directed to assist.

The seaman and an interpreter from the Bayern were transferred to the patrol boat at 1.50 a.m. The patrol boat then made its way to the Freeport, where an ambulance was waiting to take the sick man to Mater Dei for treatment.
