Malta’s former Permanent Representative to the European Union, Richard Cachia Caruana, yesterday filed a libel suit against former Labour minister Joe Grima over comments the latter made about him on Facebook.
Mr Cachia Caruana complained that two posts by Mr Grima about him contained false allegations, were libellous and aimed to tarnish his reputation.
In his posts, Mr Grima claimed that Mr Cachia Caruana was attempting to sell a €5 million villa with a pool in Valletta which, according to him, had an “exclusive” permit for a pool.
Mr Grima also said the former permanent representative had received thousands of euros in compensation after being stabbed by “someone who was more Nationalist than him”.
Mr Grima added that Mr Cachia Caruana was “sacked” by the Maltese Parliament because he made himself out to be a god.
Mr Grima recently resigned from presenting One TV programme Inkontri after making the comments about Mr Cachia Caruana.
Just a few days earlier, the former Labour minister was embroiled in controversy after using Facebook to insult a priest who wrote a critical article for The Catholic Herald about former Prime Minister Dom Mintoff.
