It is similar to Malta under the PN administration:
a) Additional excise tax on Fuel and VAT on top
b) Exorbitant increase of taxes on property set at 12%
c) Increased VAT for hotel accommodation
d) Introduced new and higher taxes on building material (eg. cement)
e) Did not reduce Income Tax as promised
f) Increase Water and Electricity tariffs while decreasing quality of service
g) Increased taxes on Car registration and annual circulation taxes
i) Increased National Insurance contributions
j) increased retirement age
and so on and on and on

Why do I have the feeling that the Nationalists who stand to lose on the gravy are picking on every shred of news to demonize the PL? Are they so convinced deep down that it is an upward struggle for them to retain power?
And may I ask a genuine question... To what do they attribute this widespread apathy towards the new GonziPN administration? To the incompetence of GonziPN? or to the skill of Joseph Muscat? While one can argue "in eternum" on the cause of this apathy, few can claim that it is not the case. Either way GonziPN got it all wrong!

Now why do I have a feeling that Dr Muscat would follow suit? Meditate, gente, meditate!

Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.

Yeahhhhhh, if only the british people were as intelligent as you, JC... they would not have booted WC from office.... loooool
I have no doubt that GonziPN's vision of misery is to bounce it on all PL people whilst they warm the seats of Castille playing "Who wants to be PM for a day!"

Well recent history has taught us a different lesson.
Capitalism has failed society in general. Capitalism is the creed of Gonzi PN and all the EPP's in Europe. Capitalism cultivates greed. It has put the world economy in a bad state since for the last five years. We are still suffering due to the bailouts handed out by nationalist and conservative governments from out taxes and due to debts accumilated by these nationalists/conservatives.
The opportunity costs of these capitalistic mongrels are enormous. In Malta the interest payable on the debts of the government and its authorities is equivalent to 30,000 pensions.

@D Zahra, thanks for reminding us what we need to face once MuscatMLP is in power. With Mintoffeconomics past performance is the guarantee of future results. Nissikaw ic-cinturin, inziedu it-taxxi u jonqos ix-xoghol.

As opposed to you Mr / Mrs Bartoli, i have the country's interest at heart and not a political party. Surely the economic formula we have been appyling until now is not sustainable in the long term. Developments around us show us that continued budget deficits and piling of national debt are damaging to the future sustainability of the economy. I seriously hope that our politicians, be it MuscatMLP or GonziPN, can find the means to address those elements of our strucutral deficit without placing too much burden on the low income earners of our society. At 75% of GDP, our national debt is now reaching alarming levels and unless remedial action is taken, we are doomed face a national crisis of our own.

In history high taxes on the top bracket has always been associated with a thriving economy.

Of course Mr Vella you'd rather see a government taxing the poor and middle class then the rich people.
Yes PL will make taxes like any government with the difference that those who can shoulder the burden will give their share and not those whose little graces in life are snatched away from them.

Hollande is trying to recover an ailing French economy which was literally destroyed by the Nationalists in France! In fact the ones who ruin everything and for bringing so much malaise in Europe are nothing more than the Conservatives and Nationalists who have ruled Europe into bankruptcy while filling their pockets!
Yes, in Malta only the blue eyed boys had it so good. But soon everyone shall have an equal chance!

D.Zahra what Hollande is doing is not even a distant cousin of austerity measures. His aim is to tax the successful people who employ thousands - the rest is for you to understand.
A similar measure in Malta has been suggested by PL various times - if implemented many will be at the door step of ETC.
D Zahra

D. Zahra as I thought you have a little mind! Hollande is trying to sell the tax on the rich as part of his austerity measures. Most rich french are not against austerity measures but against a tax specifically directed at their wealth generating capabilities.
Mr Joe Micallef
Sep 11th 2012, 17:17
Let me try and help you understand! As an austerity measure the government introduces a levy on all drainage connections (as the PL will do). In addition it introduces a tax on all those who are named David! Spot the Difference

I may have a little mind but you seem to have no clue what an austeriy program is about Joe.
