Football fans will be glued to their TV screens tonight as Malta play Italy in a World Cup qualifier. Many who support the Italian side on the international scene will be torn between their love for the Azzurri and the national team. Joanne Cocks took to the streets of Valletta.

Kevin Zammit, 36, of Birkirkara

“I will be watching the game but will not be siding with either team, since my favourite team is Portugal.”

Alfred Attard, 77, Cospicua

“Italy’s strength indicates that they should win. However Malta are a different team. They are more compact and fight for the ball more. I think the final score will be 3-1 although I’m hoping for a better one, possibly a 2-2.”

Ruben Galea, 15, of St Paul’s Bay

“I will be siding with Malta even though Italy, due to their professionalism, will beat us. I know Malta will lose 3-1.”

Doreen Howes, 50, of Santa Venera

“I’m not really interested in football but will definitely be siding with Malta tonight. It is going to be a difficult game and I think our team will lose 3-1”.

Dylan Howes, 19, of Santa Venera

“I’m not really interested in football. However, I’ll be siding with Italy who I believe they will beat Malta 2-0.”

Nancy Bondin, 30 of Santa Luċija

“I think Italy will beat Malta 2-0. I normally side with England but this time round will be siding with the Italian team because I’m sure they will win.”
