Meat production in the second quarter of this year dropped by one fifth and value declined by nearly 16 per cent when compared to the same quarter in 2011.

The drop was brought about by a decrease in the production of pig meat and broiler meat, down 27 and 13.7 per cent.

However, beef production rose by 1.1 per cent.

During the same period, the producer value of animals slaughtered at licensed slaughterhouses decreased by €1 million to €5.3 million when compared to the corresponding period in 2011.

This was also due to a drop in the value of slaughtered pigs and broilers.

An increase of 7.1 per cent was registered in the producer value of beef.
