The University of the Third Age (U3E) will start accepting applications as from tomorrow from over-60s interested in attending lectures in its 2012/2013 programme. The U3E forms part of the University of Malta’s European Centre for Gerontology.
Lectures will be held from Monday to Thursday from 9 to 11am at the Floriana centre and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 to 7pm at the Sliema centre. The programme will start on October 2.
Each module has a series of eight lectures. The topics and speakers include: Development of Political Parties in Malta Part III: 1955 Onwards, by Joe Pirotta; The Maltese Constitution, by President Emeritus Ugo Mifsud Bonnici; Il-Malti Mitkellem, by Olvin Vella; Maltese Shrines and Chapels, by Tony Terribile; Objects that Changed the History of the World, by John Sarè; Music Appreciation Part II, by Kenneth Zammit Tabona; Security Challenges in the Mediterranean, by Stephen Calleya; Development of Malta’s Fortifications, by Vincent Zammit; Languages in Malta: Past and Present, by Joseph Brincat; Church and Society: Select Issues, by Fr Renè Camilleri; Medical Conditions in Old Age, by Dr Stephen Abela; Healthy Lifestyle, by Dr Charmaine Gauci; The World in our Times, by Oliver Friggieri; Maltese Artists, by Charlene Vella; The Concept of Evil in the Scriptures, by Fr Marcello Ghirlando; Hidden Treasures in Our National Museums, by John Sarè; Malta’s Economy Through History, by Carl Camilleri; Practical First Aid, by Anthony Scerri; Valletta: The Building of a Baroque City, by Vincent Zammit.
Participants who are interested in languages are being offered the following modules: The Italian Language, by Anna Porcheddu; L’Italiano cantando, by Dr Porcheddu; French for Beginners, by Carmen Depasquale; Spanish for Beginners, by Olvido Andujar; German for Beginners, by Lina Agius.
