Voting for the audience’s choice in this year’s European Film Awards is now open. Every year, film fans across Europe are encouraged to give their feedback and to elect their favourite film; this year, everyone who votes can win the chance to join winners and nominees for the awards ceremony, which will happen in Malta on December 1.

When the European Film Academy invites its members – Europe’s greatest film stars, directors, actors and actresses – to attend the European Film Awards, the People’s Choice Award sheds a spotlight on the people the films are made for: the audience.

Past category winners have included films like Pedro Almodóvar’s Volver, Roberto Benigni’s La Vita é Bella, Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s Amélie, Fatih Akin’s Head-On, and Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire.

Film fans can cast their vote on the official website. The nominated films include The Artist (directed by Michel Hazanavicius); Barbara (directed by Christian Petzold); The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (directed by John Madden); Caesar Must Die (directed by Paolo and Vittorio Taviani); Come as You Are (directed by Geoffrey Enthoven); Headhunters (directed by Morten Tyldum); In Darkness (directed by Agnieszka Holland); The Iron Lady (directed by Phyllida Lloyd); Salmon Fishing in the Yemen (directed by Lasse Hallström); Shame (directed by Steve McQueen); Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (directed by Thomas Alfredson) and Untouchable (directed by Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano).
