Rehearsals are now in full swing for hit comic musical Legally Blonde, which will be staged at the Manoel Theatre in November.
Now they have all the moves necessary
The musical, which has received five-star reviews and numerous awards for its Broadway, West End and touring productions, is regarded as one of the most popular and exciting to open in recent years.
With that in mind, LB veteran Thomas Camilleri, who played the hilarious role of Carlos in the West End version for a year from 2010 to 2011, returned to Malta in July to work with the cast on one of the show’s most challenging numbers – Whipped Into Shape.
“This particular number involves skipping and singing for over five minutes straight,” says Camilleri, who has been living and working as an actor in London since he graduated from the Arts Educational School of Musical Theatre in 2009.
“The cast needs to work really hard to build up enough stamina to keep it going. After five days of workshops, I was really impressed with how they came along. They now have all the moves necessary to make Whipped Into Shape one of the biggest and most impressive showstoppers in the production.”
Legally Blonde (Malta) is being produced by MellowDrama, which has brought local theatregoers productions like Yes, Prime Minister, Keeping Up Appearances and The 39 Steps. The musical will be directed by Steve Casaletto, with choreography by Kristina Schranz, vocal coaching by Denise Mulholland and musical direction by Paul Abela. The cast includes Jo Caruana as Elle, John Montanaro as Emmett, Daniel Lake as Warner and little Waffles as the iconic chihuahua Bruiser.
The show will run from November 9 to 11 and from November 17 to 19.
