On Wednesday, the Café Deux Baronnes, Valletta, will host Għanja Fuq il-Barrakka, an evening of music from Malta and abroad, organised by the commitee behind L-Għanja tal-Poplu (GTP) with the support of the Malta Arts Fund at the Upper Barrakka Gardens.

The line-up on the night promises to be quite an attraction too, with the likes of Justin Galea, who besides being a versatile Maltese language singer also plays with Plato’s Dream Machine. Accompanied by drummer Mark Zizza, Galea will be performing with Ruth Abela (aka Troffa Ħamra) who is back in Malta after a lengthy spell in Spain, successfully fronting her own group Troffa Hamra y les Mechones.

Galea will also perform with guitarist Antonio Olivari, another familiar face on the local scene. They will perform original songs written by Olivari for the GTP festival. Olivari will also accompany Mario Debono, who will be performing the Maltese versions of international folk songs.

Also appearing on the night is Grecia Bezzina – runner-up at this year’s GTP – fresh from performing at Canzoni Dal Mondo festival in Maiori, Italy, where she was awarded the audience prize. Bezzina will be accompanied by her brother Dario.

KulTural, winners of this year’s GTP festival, will be delivering their home-grown signature mix of world music as a warm-up for this band’s upcoming engagement in Turkey.
