The difference between Cyprus and Malta is that these Cyprus beaches are very secluded and hardly used. Secondly you don't find illegally built boathouses right on the beach which are used as a summer residence . Therefore these turtles can hatch the eggs and bury them in peace without humans taking flash photos and / or moving these eggs for whatever reason. Nature has a way to deal with things.

and not one of almost 80 eggs were able to hatch here in Malta with all the hoopla that was made 80 days ago.

The problem was not that the eggs where moved .. but rather that people on the beach disturbed the turtle. Someone already mentioned how seriously they take these things in Cyprus, like closing the beach at night. Are we ready here in Malta to do the same? Or we do not care that much after all?

I think we are being quite unfair on all those involved in the turtle affair locally. If one googles "Alagadi Sea turtle conservation" one comes across the following
"The Department of Environmental Protection has recently announced that beach visits taking place between May and October during the hours between 10pm and 8am are prohibited. Also, fires, all lights and speedboats within a mile of the shore are not allowed.."
I wonder what the reaction would be if in April 2013 we were to see this notice issued for Gnejna Bay. It will surely ensure a safe beach for egg laying should another turtle visit and there would not be need to relocate eggs.
Now coming to think of it..this might be a good idea.

But you forgot to mention that in Cyrpus, there aren't any amatuers who pretend to be experts who interfered with nature.. like nature trust, mepa etc.. In Malta we have these busy bodies who interfered, and by coincidence or incidentally, the Maltese turtle's eggs didn't hatch, not even one of them!

Time our environmentalists had some lessons and advice from experts at this conservation centre so that next time there is a better chance that turtle eggs laid on our beaches have a better chance of hatching

No. But they have barbed and razor wire, as well as anti-personnel and limpet mines, especially on their northern beaches.

"barbed and razor wire, as well as anti-personnel and limpet mines," just to protect turtles' eggs? They must really take it seriously!
BTW - limpet mines are attached to ships' hulls underwater by magnets - you don't find them on beaches.
