A Network of Experts of Small Islands States will be set up by Irena - the international agency for renewable energy, for the sharing of expertise and best practices.

The setting up of the network was one of the conclusions agreed upon at the conference of the International Renewable Energy Summit, which was held in Malta.

The network will assist states in exploring new technologies and opportunities that evolve with the latest developments of new technologies.

Addressing a press conference, Resources Minister George Pullicino said the summit had been a highly successful one with more than 120 participants from more than 50 countries around, including 15 ministers, taking part

Irena’s director general Adnan Z. Amin thanked Mr Pullicino for hosting the summit, which brought together small island states from across the globe to discuss the challenges and opportunities faced by island states.

Mr Amin said that the efforts being undertaken by Malta to increase its share of renewable energy were in the right direction, bearing in mind the country’s limitations.
