Bartender James Aquilina will be representing Malta in an international cocktail competition in Beijing next month.

Sixty countries are taking part in the 61st International Bartenders Association Meeting and World Cocktail Competition, being held in Wuzhou, China, between October 5 and 10.

Mr Aquilina got this unique chance after beating 18 other “mixologists” at a cocktail-making competition at Hilton Malta, organised by The Maltese Bartenders Guild.

In China, Mr Aquilina will be competing in the pre-dinner cocktail category.

Other members of The Maltese Bartenders Guild travelling to China are the president of the organisation, Joseph Farrugia, and delegate Charles Almeriga.

Last year Malta did extremely well at this competition by placing second in the fancy cocktail category with Damian Muscat.

Let’s hope Mr Aquilina can top that by bringing home the gold medal!
