A young Chinese girl was pulled to safety today after she was trapped under a bus that went out of control on a road in eastern China.

Onlookers said the bus was dodging an oncoming car when it swerved and hit the three-year-old girl, who was on her bike on the sidewalk, in Laiyang city, Shandong province.

Footage shown by official broadcaster CCTV showed rescue workers gathering around the front of the bus which she was pinned under.

After digging for around eight minutes, rescuers were able to loosen the soil under her body and pull her out to safety.

She was taken to a local hospital, where doctors confirmed that she had no serious injuries, local media said.
