I thought I was reading 1200!
But then thanks USA - better than our European counterparts who come here only to pat the PM on the back and after a photo shoot (to serve as a memento) leave and are not heard of again!

I know it's a volonty basis but, I am left perplexed with the other 26 eu countries ........ Who cares about our little rock.

Great. 12 left and 84 arrived just last week. Not counting the recent 166 arrivals. The math does not seem to be working out...

Is the US a state within the EU, because I'm confused? Who is obliged to help us, the EU or the USA?

Sorry but the EU institutions are proving to be an all round failure in this regard. The guys in Brussels should be ashamed to put it mildly.

No, it is the other way around. The EU is a US state - seeing that most of the European leaders either coming directly from Goldman Sachs in the US or lackeys of the US.
And taking in a few dozen will not make a dent on the immigrant population in Malta and likewise these immigrants will have no discernible effect in the USA. This is just a PR exercise.
