Forty-one organisations, including 18 public entities and 23 private companies, have received certificates of appreciation after offering job placements to 64 people with disability; 17 are still in jobs under the programme.
The initiative falls under the Me2 project, co-financed by the European Union’s European Social Fund, and led by the Foundation for Social Welfare Services with ETC and KNP as project partners.
It employs 23 support workers to guide the participants, accompany them to work, assist them in using public transport, and guide them during training.
The experience is beneficial to clients as they acquire new skills which will enhance their employability and improve their social skills.
The Me2 project has achieved double the results predicted, reaching 430 people with disability. A cooperative was set up and is training and employing people to service the private and public sectors.
Information about the Me2 project is available at www.sapport.gov.mt.
