A young woman claimed in court today that her former partner threatened to burn her alive and set her house on fire.

The evidence was given by Graziella Grima during the arraignment of her former partner Lydon Cutajar, of Cospicua.

He stands accused of having punched Ms Grima and threatened her at   Gianpula night club.

He is also accused of having broken the conditions of bail, including a condition not to go to that club.

Ms Grima said she had been dancing when she noticed Mr Cutajar eyeing her. All of a sudden he head-butted her dancing partner and a fight developed.

She moved to another area of the club and Mr Cutajar came up to her and punched her in the face.

She said this was not the first time that he had threatened her.

This time, he warned her that he would burn her alive and set her house and car on fire.

She said that someone had also conveyed a message from him that if he was jailed because of her, he would kill her as soon as he was released.

During today's proceedings, the defence requested an adjournment so that the defence could ask a witness to give evidence.

The case continues next week. The accused was remanded in custody.
