I realise we’ve been busy with that small matter of flooding, but I can’t believe this little gem here has been passed over by most commentators.

So - how does the saying go? “M’għandux żejt f’wiċċu.” Loosely translated, meaning “he knows no shame”. A saying that fits former Gozo channel chairman Joseph Grech to a tee. Who else would have dared put in an application for the highest post at a company from which he had to resign thanks to unacceptable behaviour?

Yep – the man who decided that it was perfectly fine to make a ferry-load of people turn back to pick him up seems to have made another one of his bad decisions. Not happy with having to resign after he had most fellow Maltese and Gozitans baying for his blood, he figured out that ten months down the line it was fine to re-apply for a post with the same company.

Not within the same grade, of course. As CEO. Because – wait for it – he is “the most qualified person for the job”.

You don’t say, Mr Grech. I got great satisfaction when I read that the man was informed “in no uncertain terms” that his application “could not be entertained”.

For that, read “Have you lost your mind, man? Wasn’t the humiliation of one resignation enough for you?”

There. That puts paid to his cheeky pretensions. Only, it didn’t quite stop there of course. The man has now filed an injunction to stop government from giving the job to someone else.

Say what?

Since when have high-ranking posts become a matter of “right”?

Since when has dignity become optional?

Since when has it become okay to think that you can hold the government by the short and curlies if your every whim isn’t obliged? Smacks of Franco-Debonitis, doesn’t it?

Here’s hoping that the attorney general tells Mr Grech in no uncertain terms why this behaviour does not befit a gentleman.

No-one loves a sore loser. Particularly when that sore loser is trying to bum a living off the tax payer. So how about next time you need a job you apply in the normal fashion, Mr Grech? Without expecting the rest of the world to fall in with your desires?
