Newcastle manager Alan Pardew was given a two-match touchline ban and a £20,000 fine after accepting a Football Association charge of improper conduct yesterday.
Pardew was sent off during his side’s 2-1 win over Tottenham at St James’ Park last month after he shoved linesman Peter Kirkup when the official failed to award his side a throw-in.
The Magpies boss apologised immediately after the match, but was charged by the FA and an Independent Regulatory Commission handed down the punishment at yesterday’s hearing.
Pardew’s suspension will take place with immediate effect, meaning the former West Ham and Southampton manager will be forced to sit in the stands during Newcastle’s Premier League games against Everton and Norwich City.
