Josef Grech, the father of the nine-month-old baby who drowned in a bath on Friday, told The Sunday Times he had been the one to rush his daughter to the Cospicua health centre.

The 23-year-old father, who is estranged from the baby’s mother, had been waiting outside the apartment in Fuq San Pawl, Cospicua, to pick up his daughter when the incident happened.

“I’m so distraught. I loved her so much. I still cannot believe she’s dead,” he said.

Sources said the mother was at a friend’s house bathing her daughter, when she left the room briefly and went on a computer, leaving her daughter unattended.

The baby was then taken to Mater Dei Hospital where she was certified dead. An autopsy held today confirmed the baby died from drowning.
