AFM saves migrants found drifting at sea
File photo
A group of 83 migrants were saved by an AFM patrol boat this morning and were taken in at Haywharf Base at 3.45 p.m.
The AFM said that an aircraft on patrol sighted the dinghy that was carrying the migrants some 14 nautical miles south west of Malta.
The army immediately diverted a patrol vessel to the area, which located the dinghy that was drifting and unable to manoeuvre, so that patrol boat took the migrants - 71 men and 12 women, four claiming to be pregnant, onboard.

Poor souls, but the reality is why do we have to become a mini Africa with all of its disfunction?
Once this little island is sucked dry by these folks where else are they going to invade?
They certainly are not a people who fix their problems in their huge and rich land mass to the south, they rather burden someone else with their hi-jinx and self made problems as they love to take the easy way out.
When is it ever going to stop ?

Dr Gonzi has given a public guarantee that all illegal immigrants that are in distress or feigning distress or that have put themselves deliberately in distress will be picked up and brought to Malta. So they keep coming. How many already this year?

They did the right thing to save them. As soon as they are healthy, strong and capable of carrying on with their journey to whatever destination they were heading for, let all assistance be given.....fuel, food and water and maybe a compass too.

We recently read that Somalia and Etiopia are now safe...So why are they still coming to Europe???

Because Europe is the greatest place on Earth. Why not share our wealth with them?

that means they don't qualify for asylum. SEnd them back immediately and let this be a lesson. And while at it, stop processing asylums here in Malta and send the ones already here back. We are full up. If other EU nations want them, they can start with the burden sharing process. But we ar full up.

@S.Bugeja,
We should first start sharing our wealth with the 19% of Maltese families that are {according to Caritas} living on the poverty line, before even considering other people from other continents.
Africa is an extremely large and rich continent, unfortunately it is its people that have turned it into such a complete failed continent.

Why were they not towed back to Libya.
SEND THEM BACK GONZI.

What's happened to all this Malta/Libya co-operation we are reading about?
Joseph N. Attard
Aug 31st 2012, 19:19
Mr Camilleri, can you read? The boat was 14 nautical miles off Malta, and UNABLE TO MANOUVRE. What did you expect the AFM to do, tow them about 200 miles back to Libya? And what has Gonzi got to do with it? Are you so politically blind as to think that under Dr Muscat the incident would have been handled differently?

The answer to that is simple Mr Attard. Save the immigrants but don't force them to stay here against their will and if they leave and are caught, don't accept them back to Malta. We can't keep on honoring the discriminatory dublin 2 treaty. Its hurting both locals and immigrants.

No problem Tony Camilleri. Joseph will soon be the prime minister, and I'm sure he'll listen to you as his supporter and send them back to Libya. And not just them but all that are here at the moment and any more that may happen to be close to Malta. And as he will be pushing the fuel prices down, it will be even cheaper once he's prime minister to put them all on a boat or ship and leave them just off the shores of Libya.
