Air Malta is letting go of its popular package holiday division, Flyaway Tours, and will soon launch an invitation for offers to buy the brand.

The sale of Flyaway Tours forms part of the national airline’s restructuring plan as Air Malta aims to focus on its core business, a spokesman said.

Air Malta’s restructuring, which saw the airline obtain a multi-million government subsidy and reduce its workforce by 500 people, was approved by the European Commission earlier this year.

The sale of Flyaway Tours, to be concluded by the end of October, will be seamless and customers who already booked a holiday or are planning to do so, will not be affected, the airline said.

“The sale process will offer prospective bidders an excellent opportunity to acquire an established, renowned package holiday brand which enjoys a solid customer base that has serviced the local community for over 35 years,” Air Malta said.

Last year Flyaway Tours serviced more than 8,000 travel arrangements for individuals who booked over 23,000 bed nights.

The division is geared to offer holiday packages for the individual traveller beyond an Air Malta’s route network.
