The Labour Party and Dom Mintoff's family said this afternoon that they had nothing to do with the Fundazzjoni Duminku Mintoff and had not approved its setting up.

They noted that this so called foundation, which has not yet been registered, was sending unsigned appeal to several people, asking for money .

The PL said the only activities in memory of Mr Mintoff which were recognised by the party and the Mintoff family were those launched by the committee headed by Dr Toni Abela.

In a reaction, the foundation said it fell under no political party's aegis. It felt that everything needed to be said about Mr Mintoff, even what happened in 1998 as otherwise this would be a case of half truths.

"The foundation was set up by true Mintoff supporters who never abandoned him and who were never among those who called him traitor," the foundation said.

It said it had received support from members of Mr Mintoff's family.

The foundation said it is in the process of being registered as an NGO
