Throwback - Communists say Malta should rejoin the Non-Aligned Movement
The minuscule Communist Party of Malta said today that Malta should rejoin the Non-Aligned Movement.
The 26th Congress of the Non-Aligned Movement opens today in Tehran. Malta was part of this movement 'under the able leadership of Dom Mintoff', but today Malta no longer takes part, the PKM observed.
"The decision in 2004 that Malta was no longer a member of this movement, ultimately led to Malta becoming a tool of the imperialist countries. Imperialist policies and actions resulted in wars and the dismemberment of many sovereign countries with the ultimate goal of taking their wealth and natural resources. Mintoff himself had described this policy as the biggest obstacle to world peace ".
"Former Cuban leader, Fidel Castro has described the purpose and existence of this movement: to ensure the national independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and security of non-aligned countries. Principles that the Communist Party of Malta embraces ".

But we do need some of these "throwbacks" in all parliaments in the West to balance out the creeping fascism that has taken hold.

But it is Left Wing fascism that is the creeping cancer in the West.
Look at what 13 years of Left Wing fascism did to the UK !!

Our rightfull place is, is always have been in western Europe. Few Maltese were in favour of the policy of nuetrality, which was put in the constitution in the form of blackmail.
The policy of non alighment, which was just a smokescreen for being pro soviet and anti western never got the support of the Maltese, except a few decadents like the non entity communist party!

PL wants to look at the future (because the past haunts them) and the Communist Party of Malta (consisting of a few people) wants to look at the past.
A straightforward choise for us all.

"Non-alignment", "imperialism", "the able leadership of Dom Mintoff" ... brings back ugly memories of Socialist Malta in the 1980s ... and a lot of foreboding for the future!

Some historical facts. The late Dr Guido Demarco participated in the Cartagena Summit on the Non-Aligned Movement in 1995. This was meeting was held on the 18th-20th October, 1995 !!!! The official documents refer to him as "MALTA H.E. PROF GUIDO DE MARCO VICE-PRESIDENT AND MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS
The countries of the non-aligned movement were also canvassed for their vote in favour of the presidency of Malta in the U.N.
Malta and Cyrpus ceased to be members of the Non-Aligned movement in 2004, when both joined the E.U.

The Maltese Communist Party represent no one but itself. The Party consists of not more than a dozen of nostalgics and ideologues of a bygone era. They have nothing to do with the LP and even in Mintoff's heyday they were shunned by the MLP and ostrasized by Dom Mintoff. He never liked Communists and was always of the opinion that thier first loyalty was to the Cremlin and not to Malta. It is inconcievable that a 'miniscule party' with no popular or parliamentary backing should be given this disapporionate importance. If a Hollande can ignore the relatively powerful CP of France and consign them to the dustbin, surely our two major parties can do much better. So let us just ignore them. They can never turn the clock back. The First Cold war is over and today non-alignmnet simply doesn't make sense. Malta is bone of the bone, flesh of the flesh of the Western World and it is in the West that we move, breathe and have our being. So please shut up my dear Communists, your empty words are welcome fodder for the enemies of the Labour Movement. See, how they have blown your crazy ideas into something big and tried to lay it at Labour's door. If you just cannot stop talking, tzke a sleeping pill and doze off for a couple of years.

With your preposterous reasoning no minorities should have a voice. This would be another form of tyranny. So Jesus should have been silenced as his message went against the discourse of the time. Oh, he was silenced!

These few people, remnants of the most hated and perverse idea in history, have the cheek to speak about imperialism, when the greatest imperial power on earth was their paradise, the Soviet union!
What non aligned!!! Are Cuba and a horde of other socialist dictatorships non aligned?
It sends shivers down your spine that there still exists people longing for the hell of socialism and communism!

To my knowledge, there are also Vietnam, China, Laos and Nepal besides the countries you have mentioned. There are also many other Communist parties which are rather strong, although not in power.
I believe that modern communist parties should adopt a system of Market Socialism as practised in China in order to modernise and bring their country forward.
Joseph N. Attard

You may be right Mr Camilleri. I just mentioned the most repressive. Most others are now communist only in name. Look at vast China, embracing the western capitalist systems under a special brand of communism. Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos? Wide open to western tourism and fast shedding impractical communism. Burma (Myanmar)? Fast heading towards democracy under Aung San Suu Kyi. I stand by my contention that Comunism is quickly becoming obsolete. Milder socialism is a rather different kind of scourge.

Paul,Malta has been under a PN Democratic Dictatorship for the last 25 years. Look what’s going on to-day. GonziPN lost his majority, the country is in a stand still and yet this PN Democratic Dictatorship keeps hanging on to POWER.
Stop living in the past, look around you and see the distraction of our country, look around you and see what kind of environment we are passing on to our kids. That’s what you should be looking at NOT the 70’s and 80’s.

Miniscule is right. These people must be living in a cave. What worries me is that these type of 'nonentity' organisations are afforded a disproportinate voice in the local media. Involving MIntoff simply to 'draw' attention is passe. Anyway hasn t anyone told them that Communism has been consigned to the dustbin of history?

Thank you v. much communists of Malta for reminding us that Mr.Mintoffwas God's gift to you.
The meeting of the non-aligned movement is being hosted by Mr.Ahmedinejad, that man who says that Hitler was right, that the state of Israel shall be removed from the map etc etc.
It says it doesn't it. Now go back to your hole where you can split and share all your riches (or misery) equally between yourselves as Mr. Marx philosophied.
