Visionary
Once I read that any fool can criticise, condemn, and complain, and most fools do. I remembered this quote after reading Karl Consiglio’s letter (The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, August 22).
Mr Consiglio referred to Dom Mintoff’s vision as a ridiculous one. After reading this statement one cannot but not conclude that he should refrain from writing on historical issues due to lack of foresight and perhaps concentrate on writing urban legends. I believe that he would fare much better.

By using your rhetoric the same applies to you as you have done the same.

Yes but, unlike Dane Cauchi, I wasnt rhetoric, I gave a good reason or two why I believed Mintoff's vision was ridiculous, I could have given many more reasons as J. Martinelli does below, but at the time I was trying to be respectful because the man had just died.

History is written - not in books, articles and newspaper comments. It is written in the minds of the people who lived thru the time in question. Few, however, are able to put pen to paper and write history without being, in one way or another, biased by what, that, that has gone, has effected him positively or negatively.
Yet, we must admit that Mintoff is dead and gone, - and so committed to History. So please let everyone lie down his arms - admit that being human, like Dom was, we are all prone to commit mistakes, misjudge and render ourselves ........stupidly human!!! Judge, if you will, but do it in private. But DO spear a prayer of the MAN, the SOUL, that has returned to its maker.
Renting for him or against him will not make any difference to him now. The Scales are in the hands of the one who Knows All and Understands All.

I don't believe in God, therefore I can judge others, I don't pray and I dont talk to walls, and the soul is just about as important as the thumb.

Communist friends and their ideas, secret pacts, political murders, frame-ups of innocent people, beatings, shootings, tear gas, locking out doctors, teachers, calling Dockyard workers 'eunuchs', permitting burning of The Times, ransacking the Curia, destroying EFA's residence and terrorizing his wife and children, suspending the Constitutional court, bulk buying, high unemployment and deployment of parastatal entities to create precarious employment, closing MCAST and restricting access to university, were all part of Mintoff's vision which the rewriters of history seem not to bother mentioning.
But according to the 'modern and progressive' Muscat Labour Party no one has the right to mention, let alone criticize the past Socialist policies which turned the 70's and 80s into 'golden years'!

Typical of someone who does not tolerate criticism, bring on the pitch forks and let’s burn down again.

So you're a fool too Dane since you have just criticised, condemned and complained.

Mr Consiglio is entitled to his opinion as much as the next person. In Malta one is either Nationalist or Labour and even families have been torn apart by political divides. I know families where they simply no longer communicate entirely due to politics!
Perhaps Dane would like to write a long letter eulogising the late Dom Mintoff since the above is little more than an unexplained gripe.
