Hiram Johnson (US) is quoted as having said that “the first casualty when war comes is truth”. We had such a casualty last week, a fatal one, where truth was so badly wounded that it died. It was buried last Saturday under layers of hysteria, idolatry, false premises and misperceptions. History was rewritten, and the facts were considered to be redundant in the new edition. Coincidentally the date of Johnson’s death in 1945 was August 6.
