My reply to Desmond Zammit Marmarà (August 24) is brief, as he is so utterly wrong, narrow-minded and prejudiced that his views can be dismissed (I borrow his word) as the gaxin of Maltese history assessment!

He shows his utter lack of judgment by his misguided conclusion that my comments “are an insult to the great patriots who did their utmost and even sacrificed themselves to see the Maltese people free and living with the dignity and respect they deserve.” What rubbish!

He mentions Manwel Dimech whom I did not know of course (nor would I have wanted to know), but fancy mentioning Ugo P. Mifsud, who was nevertheless pro-British and as such able to stand up to the British administrators with dignity and on par, and whom I frequently met as a little boy, and of all people, Paul Boffa and George Borg Olivier, with whom I was in close contact day after day for years on end as news editor of the Times of Malta when they were in office (and more so in private life) and were not anti-British at all and very sober negotiators.

Many will object to his comparing Mintoff to them, as they consider him an oppressor of so many in Malta and never a gentleman as they surely were. I lived history. He twists his history.
