Your editorial of August 25 hit the nail on the head.

I feel it is time that those responsible for road safety, such as Transport Malta officials, police and wardens, start stopping drivers of all kinds of vehicles, and ask them questions about the Highway Code, especially the meaning of road signs.

For instance, practically nobody observes the ‘give way’ sign at roundabouts and junctions – they just speed through, I happen to take extra care when entering a roundabout and make sure that I am in the clear.

And what about double parking? One comes across this all the time, especially outside take-aways, newspaper outlets and bakers.

While wardens lie in wait to catch someone without a seatbelt, vendors on special occasions take up space at roundabouts. Some are even licensed to open shop in roundabouts; there are also bus stops and car exits into roundabouts.

When are we going to learn? We need to have a clean sweep in traffic management and drivers have to learn to respect each other and pedestrians.
